What is ClinicalKey?
ClinicalKey, a well-known health sciences resource from Elsevier, is a platform that integrates point-of-care resources with full-text access to selected medical texts and journals.
Why is Countway Library canceling ClinicalKey?
After a thorough review of content, usage, and rising subscription costs, Countway Library has made the challenging decision to cancel ClinicalKey.
For many years, we have utilized ClinicalKey to access several important journals and textbooks, but the rising subscription cost is no longer sustainable. Additionally, we were paying for a significant number of texts with low usage in order to access a select few important resources.
This decision is also in line with Countway’s commitment to long-term access and ownership. We are seeking models where we can ensure access to titles for not only today’s needs, but tomorrow’s as well, and this is something that ClinicalKey does not, at this time, offer. Therefore, as of June 30th, 2025, ClinicalKey will no longer be available through Countway.
Many of the books and journals you may have been using via this platform will remain available, however, either through other platforms online or in print. If you need assistance in accessing these, or any other resources, please contact the library.
What is the timeline for all of this?
ClinicalKey will no longer be available as of June 30, 2025.
What resources does Countway Library recommend instead of ClinicalKey?
Librarians are prepared to help you identify alternative titles to use in place of those from ClinicalKey. Many medical textbooks are available from AccessMedicine. We also recommend the LWW Health Library collection and the Thieme MedOne Education collection as alternative resources for textbooks.
Unfortunately, Elsevier does not sell many of its clinical ebooks to libraries outside of the ClinicalKey bundle. We have purchased print copies of several ClinicalKey high-use titles and can purchase additional titles upon request. For assistance with identifying ebooks, please submit a question through Ask Countway. To request a book purchase, use the Purchase Request Form.
What if I have further questions about these or other library resources?
Please feel free to email Matthew Noe, the Lead Collection and Knowledge Management Librarian, with any questions about ClinicalKey or alternate resources.
