Week 73: Library Welcomes Classes of 2025

The HMS/HSDM Class of 2025 have been under the big tent since Monday diving into the curriculum with Introduction to the Profession and were introduced to their societies. The Medical School welcomed approx. 160 students on Monday into the class of 2025 and HSDM welcomed an incoming cohort of approximately 50 advanced graduate education students on July 1st. The HSDM class of 2024 will be getting a (re)Orientation to the Countway and its physical and digital offerings on Wednesday August 25th. The T.H. Harvard Chan School of Public Health summer session orientations and instruction session have been ongoing since June. Orientation tours and information sessions will be offered at the Countway on August 23rd and 27th.

Students know that they can use their IDs to access the library but might be a bit overwhelmed in the first few weeks of school before they get a good feel for the best spots to relax and recharge. Concierge staff are available for quick impromptu tours of our renovated spaces. As of Monday, Countway Library hours are:

Monday - Thursday 8:00 am to 9:00 pm

Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm

Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Sunday 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm

We remain open to HUID holders only and continue to require masks in all indoor library spaces. Our daily count of approx. 175 turnstile taps has been steady since students have returned to campus. The digital monitors located on the first floor are getting ready to go live soon so, start thinking about ways to promote your services, resources, and events. We are planning on opening the Makerspace by appointment in September. Some of the student groups are interested in reserving spaces for student sponsored activities. Please refer requests to Luciana for Lahey Room and Classrooms 102 & 103. All 5th floor conference rooms are to be reserved through HMS Room Scheduling.

The Center for the History of Medicine is now open to all HUID holders. August hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 10:00-2:00 and from September to December, Tuesday-Friday, 10:00-4:00. We are waiting for HMS guidance on when visitors will be allowed on campus into the library. The gallery of the Warren Anatomical Museum remains temporarily closed and will stay closed until 2022. If you have any questions regarding the Warren Anatomical Museum, please contact the curator.

With students back in class, we may get questions about course reserves. Please direct students and faculty to our Course Reserves page on the Countway website. This page includes instructions for all 3 school's instructors, information on how long the process will take, and contact information for questions.

In addition, the Outreach office late August, early September, will begin sending out a bi-weekly newsletter to all staff, students and faculty on the quad (7000 people) to promote library services. Please help us share the library's resources, services and programs by filling out the outreach promotion form located in the library shared drive.

Welcome back to the classes of 2025!
