Stephanie Krauss is the Reference Archivist in the Countway Library’s Center for the History of Medicine. Since starting at the Center in 2019, Stephanie has played an integral role on the research and instruction team for special collections and archives.

As a reference archivist, Stephanie provides remote and in-person research services to the Center’s diverse patrons, including Harvard faculty, staff, and students, as well as researchers from around the world. If you have been to the Center’s reading room on lower level 2 of the Countway Library, you likely encountered her working at the reading room desk!

Stephanie works to connect patrons to useful primary resources. She welcomes students and interest groups into the archives through classes and tours and, working with her colleagues, she creates and installs exhibits on display throughout Countway. Stephanie enjoys helping and getting to know all Center researchers, as she believes that archivists and researchers have a lot to learn from each other.

Stephanie has held several leadership positions in service to New England Archivists (NEA), a nonprofit that connects and supports the diverse individuals and organizations in New England responsible for the care of cultural heritage and the documentary record. She was a Representative at Large from 2020 to 2023 and a Committee Chair for the NEA’s 50th Anniversary Meeting in 2023. She currently serves as the Co-chair of NEA’s Education Committee, a group that plans workshops and other professional development events for NEA members.

Before 2019, Stephanie worked as a library and archives specialist at Historic New England and as a reference assistant at Hirsh Health Sciences Library, Tufts University. Stephanie holds both an MA in History and an MLS from Simmons College and a BA in history from the College of William and Mary.
