The Center for the History of Medicine, Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine, presents:
To celebrate the opening of Corpus Delicti: the Doctor as the Detective, our new exhibit on the history of legal medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Center of the History is proud to present a screening of the 1950 MGM film Mystery Street.
Mystery Street (also known as Murder at Harvard) was originally intended as a documentary on the work of the Department of Legal Medicine, but was later recast as a fictional drama. The plot concerns a police detective (Ricardo Montalban) investigating and solving the murder of a woman on a Cape Cod beach with the help of “Dr. McAdoo” (Bruce Bennett, portraying a fictionalized version of Alan R. Moritz) and the Legal Medicine personnel at Harvard. You can watch the original trailer, in which one of the actors thanks Harvard Medical School, below:
So join the Center for the History of Medicine for dinner and movie on February 24. The event is free, but seating is limited, so please register online here. Pizza dinner will be provided. Corpus Delicti: the Doctor as the Detective will be available for viewing on L2 of the Countway after the showing.
